Disney Delights at D23 with ‘Incredibles 3’ announcement, ‘Moana 2’ Footage, and new ‘Star Wars’ sequel for 2026

Disney thrilled fans at D23 with a showcase full of exciting announcements and sneak peeks, including new details on “Moana 2,” the upcoming “Incredibles 3,” and a new “Star Wars” sequel set for 2026. The event featured live performances, surprise appearances from stars like Dwayne Johnson, Zoe Saldaña, and Jude Law, and a standing ovation for Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Highlights of the event included:

  • “Moana 2”: Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson performed a lively number featuring drummers and dancers, previewing the sequel, which hits theaters on Nov. 27. The film will introduce new characters and continue the adventures of Moana and Maui.
  • “Star Wars” Updates: Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni teased “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” a Star Wars film scheduled for May 2026. Jude Law announced “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” debuting on Disney+ on Dec. 3, which will explore a coming-of-age story in the Star Wars universe.
  • Pixar Announcements: Pixar revealed “Incredibles 3” with Brad Bird returning as director. The studio also unveiled “Toy Story 5,” a summer 2026 release, and shared concept art for “Frozen III,” set for 2027. James Cameron introduced “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” the third film in the Avatar series.
  • Other Highlights: Disney previewed “Zootopia 2,” coming to theaters in November 2025, and introduced new projects like “Monster Jam” and “Tron: Ares,” featuring a score by Nine Inch Nails.
  • Marvel Sneak Peeks: Marvel President Kevin Feige presented updates on “Ironheart,” “Fantastic Four,” and “Daredevil: Born Again,” set to stream on Disney+ in March.
  • Musical Moments: Lin-Manuel Miranda introduced a new song from “Mufasa: The Lion King,” while Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot promoted their live-action “Snow White” film. Kathryn Hahn performed from her upcoming Marvel series “Agatha All Along.”
  • “Freaky Friday” Sequel: Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan announced “Freakier Friday,” a sequel to the 2003 hit, with Curtis receiving Disney Legend honors.
  • Pixar Series: Pixar announced “Dream Productions,” a series set between “Inside Out” and its sequel, and “Win or Lose,” the studio’s first long-form series, both coming to Disney+ in 2025 and December 2024, respectively.
