Their approach to consuming content and communication is shifting norms.
For Gen Z, fitness is a key focus. They see gyms as essential spots for socializing, choosing them over bars for social interactions and even romantic outings. What types of activities do they prefer at the gym?
Despite the hype surrounding Gen Z’s interest in weightlifting (81% use free weights), their fitness preferences are varied. A survey titled Gen Z Fitness: Deciphering the Trend shows that 64% of Gen Z individuals prefer diverse workout options and enjoy exploring new exercise routines.
Gen Z’s passion for strength and conditioning has contributed to the surge in popularity of sculpt workouts such as Stretch, Yoga, and Pilates classes, which complement muscle toning and building. These workouts offer intense results through low-impact movements.
Sculpt classes have emerged as the fastest-growing segment in the fitness industry in 2022, with a 471% increase in class bookings between January and October. The Gen Z Fitness: Deciphering the Trend report highlights a significant interest in this category, with 63% of Gen Z participants enjoying Reformer Pilates, 57% taking part in Yoga classes, and 55% engaging in mat Pilates sessions.
This trend is also reflected on social media platforms, with Pilates videos on TikTok garnering 4.1 billion views and Yoga videos amassing a staggering 34.4 billion views.
