Aaron Rai capitalizes on Max Greyserman’s late collapse to secure victory at the Wyndham Championship

0

Aaron Rai secured his first PGA Tour victory by winning the Wyndham Championship. The 29-year-old Englishman finished at 18-under 262 after a final round of 6-under 64 at Sedgefield Country Club in the regular-season finale.
Max Greyserman, a former Duke player, suffered a late meltdown, finishing two strokes behind Rai after shooting a 69 on the final day, which included 36 holes due to a rain delay earlier in the tournament.
After Greyserman’s error on the par-4 14th hole, Rai found himself unexpectedly sharing the lead. Greyserman’s struggles continued, allowing Rai to ultimately clinch the victory with a birdie on the 18th hole.
J.J. Spaun and Ryo Hisatsune tied for third place at 15 under, while amateur Luke Clanton tied for fifth with Austin Eckroat at 14 under.
Meanwhile, Matt Kuchar, the second-round leader, chose to halt play on the 18th hole and will resume his round on Monday at 11 under. Kuchar needed a win to continue his streak of qualifying for the FedEx Cup playoffs.
The top 70 players on the points list have earned a spot in the playoff opener in Tennessee next week.
