Selena Gomez has emerged as a dedicated champion for mental health awareness. She has fearlessly revealed her own battles with anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, shedding light on these crucial issues. Through her enlightening 2022 documentary “My Mind & Me” and the establishment of impactful organizations such as the Rare Impact Fund and Wondermind, Selena actively works to foster mental well-being and provide vital support to those in need.

She is now expressing that her openness has also empowered her to steer the course of her own story. “I see myself as someone who embodies love, empathy, and a sincere willingness to lend a helping hand,” she shared with Hoda Kotb during a segment on the Today show. “I believe that amidst life’s distractions and the overwhelming noise, it’s crucial to stay true to oneself.”

In fact, she elaborated that openly discussing her mental illness with the public has granted her a profound sense of liberation. “I no longer fear societal perceptions because I have taken ownership of my narrative—and in doing so, I have found true freedom,” she expressed.

In a recent interview with Wondermind, the “mental fitness” ecosystem co-founded by her and her mother, Mandy Teefey, she shared how discussing topics such as social anxiety not only benefits herself but also creates a sense of connection and support for others, making them feel less isolated.

“At times, I understand the reasons behind my emotions, while at other times, their origins elude me,” she remarked. “I have a natural inclination to persevere, yet knowing that others in the room experience similar feelings provides a sense of shared understanding and comfort. It truly brings me joy that we are collectively opening up about such emotions. This shared dialogue truly makes a profound impact, reassuring us that we are not alone in our experiences.”

Even though she used to avoid solitude, Gomez has come to appreciate its importance. “In the past, I disliked being by myself,” she admitted. “I always surrounded myself with others, but now I truly treasure those moments of solitude. It’s my way of rejuvenating and finding inner peace.”
