Domingo Germán gets another opportunity in the MLB with the Pirates following unsuccessful stint in New York

0

Domingo Germán has made a return to the major leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates after his departure from the New York Yankees due to behavioral issues last year. He was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis by the Pirates, where he had a 6-4 record and a 5.29 ERA in 13 starts this season.
Last June, Germán pitched a perfect game, but his career took a downturn when he was placed on MLB’s restricted list following a reported confrontation with the Yankees manager in the clubhouse a couple of months later. This incident added to previous troubles for the Dominican pitcher.
In 2019, Germán was suspended for 81 games for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy after an incident involving his then-girlfriend, whom he later married. Consequently, the Yankees let him go, casting uncertainty over Germán’s baseball career.
After signing a minor-league contract with the Pirates in March, Germán has now joined the team in Los Angeles and will be wearing number zero as they prepare for a series against the NL West-leading Dodgers. The Pirates are hoping Germán can provide support to their struggling bullpen.
Having accumulated a 31-28 record with a 4.41 ERA and 543 strikeouts in 112 appearances, including 89 starts, Germán spent his entire big-league career with the Yankees since 2017.
To make room for Germán on the 26-man active roster, pitcher Hunter Stratton was optioned to Triple-A, and pitcher Josh Walker was designated for assignment to open a spot on the 40-man roster.
