Stellantis has informed union workers at a truck plant near Detroit that it may need to lay off up to 2,450 out of the 3,700 union workers currently employed there. This plant, the Stellantis Warren Truck Plant, is responsible for manufacturing an older version of the Ram 1500 pickup known as the Tradesman, primarily targeted towards commercial clients. In 2018, a new version of the truck was introduced, and a new Tradesman model is expected for the 2025 year.
The company has decided to relocate the production of the new Tradesman to the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Consequently, Stellantis will be letting go of one shift of workers at the Warren facility. Nonetheless, the Warren plant will continue production of the Jeep Wagoneer SUV.
