Approximately 10,000 attendees filled the venue in Newport, Rhode Island to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the renowned Newport Jazz Festival, which stands as one of the largest music events in New England. The festival, concluding on Sunday, is recognized as one of the premier multi-day jazz festivals globally, drawing crowds to the coastal town throughout its history. Located at Fort Adams State Park, this year’s festival attendees enjoyed a refreshing ocean breeze, occasional rain showers, and cooling misting fans to combat the heat and humidity.
Among the lineup of performers for this special anniversary were Elvis Costello, Meshell Ndegeocello, Dinner Party, and Samara Joy, bringing their unique talents to the stage. With a rich history, the festival has welcomed iconic artists like Muddy Waters, Tito Puente, Isaac Hayes, Dizzy Gillespie, and numerous others over the years. Notably, Gillespie famously recorded a live album at the festival back in 1957, adding to the event’s legendary status.
