In Washington, a Pennsylvania congressman, Rep. Mike Kelly, who was present during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, has been appointed to lead a House task force responsible for investigating the incident and proposing measures to prevent future attacks. Rep. Kelly, representing Butler where the July 13 attack took place, initiated the creation of the task force, emphasizing the need for answers for his community and the nation.

The House task force, announced jointly by Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, consists of 13 lawmakers, with seven Republicans and six Democrats. The bipartisan group aims to issue a comprehensive report before Dec. 13 and has been granted authority to issue subpoenas to aid in their investigation.

The panel includes members with backgrounds in law enforcement, legal affairs, and the military and will oversee all current House committee inquiries related to the assassination attempt on Trump, aiming to streamline the investigation process.

Among the Republican members are Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee, Rep. David Joyce of Ohio, Rep. Laurel Lee of Florida, Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida, Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana, and Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas, all of whom have previous experience in military or law enforcement roles.

On the Democratic side, Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado, a former Army Ranger, will serve as the lead member of the committee, supported by Rep. Lou Correa of California, Rep. Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Rep. Glenn Ivey of Maryland, and Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Florida, each bringing unique expertise to the investigative task force.
