Man passes away after saving two boys from drowning in New Jersey river

In Hamilton Township, New Jersey, a tragic incident occurred where a heroic man lost his life while rescuing two children in a river. Pablo Hernandez Cruz, 49, of Mays Landing, bravely jumped into the Great Egg Harbor River at Weymouth Furnace park when he noticed two boys, aged 8 and 12, struggling in the water. Despite swimming not being permitted in the river due to potential dangers like strong currents and deep spots, Cruz selflessly sprang into action to save the children.
Quickly attending to the boys, Cruz managed to bring them to safety where they were aided by other bystanders. However, as he rescued the children, Cruz himself became submerged in the water and tragically disappeared beneath the surface. Shortly after, he was located and transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Following the incident, the 12-year-old boy received treatment for undisclosed injuries and was eventually released. The 8-year-old boy, on the other hand, was transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for further medical attention. Specific details about the younger child’s condition were not disclosed. The identities of the boys remain anonymous, and authorities have not confirmed whether Cruz was acquainted with them.
