House overlooking Royal Troon golf course, prime location for British Open, now on market

TROON, Scotland – Approximately 250,000 golf enthusiasts are expected to visit Royal Troon to witness notable players such as Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Tiger Woods during the British Open. Among them, the Kelly family resides in the ideal location to spectate as their home, known as “Blackrock House,” is positioned in the heart of the championship course, offering views of five holes.

This unique property has garnered attention this week due to the presence of “for sale” signs. The Kellys have had the privilege of watching three British Open editions from their front lawn, including the unforgettable duel in 2016 between Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson.

Their home provides stunning views of key locations on the course, such as the par-5 16th green, the No. 2 green, and the tees at No. 3 and No. 17. John Kelly, Andrew’s brother, emphasized the exceptional nature of their residence, describing it as unlike any other in the UK or possibly worldwide, being situated directly within a championship golf course.

The decision to put the property up for sale during the Open holds sentimental value for the Kelly family, as their parents, who were both avid golfers and members of Troon, recently passed away. Despite this being a bittersweet moment, they feel it is the right time to sell and are focused on honoring their parents’ memory during the event.

While the asking price for the property has not been disclosed by the Kellys, the real estate company handling the sale is expected to reveal it soon. The property’s historical significance, coupled with its prime location overlooking the golf course and the Firth of Clyde toward the Isle of Arran, adds to its allure.

Visitors walking the course have also taken note of the property, with some expressing concerns about the lack of privacy during eventful weeks like the British Open. Despite the hustle and bustle that comes with hosting such a prestigious tournament, the Kelly family plans to cherish the experience as it only occurs every few years.

In addition to witnessing top golfers in action, the property also sees its fair share of golf balls landing in the yard, with the club’s scorecard specifying the property as out of bounds. Despite these occasional inconveniences, the Kellys remain fond of their unique vantage point for one of golf’s most celebrated events.
