French football federation takes legal action against Argentina team for making ‘racist and discriminatory comments’

0

The French Soccer Federation is taking legal action against Argentina players for making “racist and discriminatory remarks” regarding France’s team after the Copa America final. Following Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Colombia on Sunday, a video surfaced on Instagram showing Argentina players singing derogatory chants about French players with African heritage. This behavior mirrors similar chants that occurred before the World Cup final between France and Argentina two years ago, which Argentina also won.

In response to the offensive chants, the French soccer federation has decided to file a legal complaint, describing the remarks as contrary to the values of sports and human rights. The federation plans to reach out to their Argentinian counterpart and FIFA directly to address the issue. The discriminatory chants specifically targeted France players of African descent who hold French passports from various nations.

FFF President, Philippe Diallo, strongly denounced the racist and discriminatory nature of the remarks directed at the French team. The federation emphasized a commitment to combating racism in soccer by establishing a new task force dedicated to the cause.
