JD Vance, a political newcomer, has been called upon by Donald Trump to assist in seeking revenge for his defeat

JD Vance is selected as Donald Trump’s running mate in an attempt to secure victory in the Midwest during the upcoming election. However, Vance, a relatively unknown 39-year-old Republican congressman, is unfamiliar even within his own party, particularly in crucial swing states that Trump is counting on. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Pete Hoekstra’s reaction to the news was straightforward: “We don’t know him.”

Despite his lack of recognition, Vance has been tasked with enhancing his profile quickly in key states for the 2020 electoral showdown against Democratic President Joe Biden. Critics from both sides of the political spectrum are highlighting Vance’s limited government experience, nationalist viewpoints, and past criticism of Trump. While some question his effectiveness in the campaign, others suggest he may be more suited for enacting Trump’s policies if given the opportunity.

Notably, veteran Republican pollster Neil Newhouse views Vance as more of a policy and governing selection than a campaign choice due to his relative obscurity. Even Kellyanne Conway, former Chief Counselor to Trump, had advocated for different running mates before the announcement.

Recent polls indicate that the majority of voters are not familiar with Vance, with only a small percentage having a favorable opinion of him. The decision to pick Vance, the youngest and least experienced candidate compared to others on the shortlist, has drawn criticism, particularly from Trump’s opponents.

Trump’s decision was influenced by Vance’s performance on conservative media and his personal background growing up in Appalachia, which Trump believes will resonate with Midwestern voters. Vance’s chemistry with Trump, his son, and other key figures in the Republican party is also a factor in his selection.

Despite criticisms from Biden’s campaign focusing on Vance’s stances on abortion, the economy, and his support for Trump’s election challenges, Vance is seen as an asset on the ticket. His evolution on Trump is perceived as a way to connect with swing voters who may be skeptical.

As Vance steps into the role as Trump’s running mate, many voters and officials remain unfamiliar with him. Even Georgia Governor Brian Kemp admitted to not knowing much about Vance, highlighting the mystery that surrounds him in political circles.
