McNamara and Dr. Troy gave us a thrilling series of insights into their
operations. The fascination for the world of aesthetic medicine has
remained unbroken ever since. People not only like to watch it, they
also like to have it done. 15 million surgical procedures were carried
out worldwide last year. According to the International Society of
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), demand has risen by 41 percent in
the last four years. Liposuction leads the rankings, followed by breast
correction and facial procedures.
The beauty business is booming
This is partly due to social media, which is flooded with images
retouched to perfection. The mirror image is often not good enough.
But there are also new developments that are making it easier for
more and more people to fulfill their desire for optimization. A facelift
à la Nip/Tuck in 2003 only has the basic idea in common with today’s
facelift. And the results are certainly not comparable. ‘One of the
latest developments in this area,’ says Dr. Sabine Apfolterer, ‘is the
deep plane facelift. This method no longer tightens superficially, but
in depth, where the sagging occurs. This ensures very natural results
and inconspicuous scars.’ Even the forehead – once the problem
child of plastic surgery – can be lifted and tightened with virtually no
scarring.
Plastic surgeons are providing insight into the innovations in the
booming body-shaping sector. Thanks to 3D analysis, we can already
take a look at our desired body during the initial consultation. And
procedures such as breast surgery and body contouring are
becoming increasingly gentle. Scars are becoming smaller and
smaller, and there is no need for major snipping and stitching.
Gliding Brow Lift
What’s new: The GBL is a minimally invasive brow lift without a long
scar at the hairline. This can be avoided thanks to a new technique.
‘The procedure,’ says Dr. Apfolterer, ‘corrects a tired appearance by
lifting the brows and tightening the forehead area. The operation is
performed on the day under a short anesthetic or twilight sleep. Two
small 3 mm incisions are made and the brows are lifted to the desired
height. The shape of the brows – e.g. foxy eyes – can also be
determined. They are fixed with sutures.
Suitable for: People of all ages with a depressed forehead or sunken
brows, excess forehead skin, or deep wrinkles on the forehead.
Deep Plane Facelift
What’s new: ‘This new tightening technique for the face and chin/
neck area ensures even more natural and long-lasting results,’ says
Dr. Apfolterer. ‘Tightening no longer takes place on the surface, but in
depth. Deep tissue and the underlying muscles are surgically lifted
and tightened. The superficial layers of tissue are less traumatized
than with conventional facelifts. This leads to faster healing. As there
is no tension on the skin, the result is particularly natural with
inconspicuous scars.’
Used for: Sagging skin, sagging tissue, and drooping contours.
Safer Boob Job
What’s new: The special plastic funnel ‘Keller Funnel’ replaces the
conventional manual insertion of silicone implants in modern breast
surgery and offers several advantages. Such as: The tool enables
particularly precise insertion of the implant. There is no skin contact,
which enables absolutely sterile implant insertion and thus minimizes
surgical risks. In addition, a much smaller incision is required to place
the breast implant than with manual insertion.
The New Contouring
What’s new: BodyTite takes the art of contouring to the next level.
This is currently the most intensive form of application of
radiofrequency currents on and under the skin with results that can
otherwise only be achieved with major surgical procedures including
tissue removal. Radiofrequency can be used at the same time as
liposuction.
The treatment is suitable for a permanent reduction
in fatty tissue plus circumference reduction, with simultaneous 3D
tightening of the collagen fibers. Body contours can be perfectly
