Former NFL player Jacoby Jones, known for his record-breaking 108-yard kickoff return in the 2013 Super Bowl, has passed away at the age of 40. The Houston Texans, Jones’ first team during his career, confirmed his death without disclosing the cause. Jones played for various teams from 2007-2015, including the Baltimore Ravens, where he made significant contributions to their Super Bowl victory.
One of Jones’ memorable moments was his involvement in the “Mile High Miracle” during a playoff game against Denver in January 2013. He caught a crucial 70-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds of regulation, leading the Ravens to eventually win in double overtime. In the following Super Bowl against San Francisco, Jones caught a 56-yard TD pass and scored a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Jones, a New Orleans native, received praise from Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who recalled his infectious joy and love for the game. Jones was named to The Associated Press All-Pro team in 2012 as a kick returner before showcasing his dancing skills on “Dancing With The Stars.”
Former teammate J.J. Watt remembered Jones as a fun-loving individual with a constant smile. The NFL community mourns the loss of Jones, a talented player and a beloved personality.
