Italy’s Jasmine Paolini will compete against the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova in the Wimbledon women’s championship on Saturday at Centre Court. This finals match marks the first singles final appearance at the All England Club for both players.
Paolini, seeded seventh, is aiming for her second consecutive Grand Slam tournament title after her loss to Iga Swiatek in the final at Roland Garros last month. Notably, she is the first woman since Serena Williams in 2016 to reach the finals of both the French Open on clay and Wimbledon on grass in the same season.
On the other hand, Krejcikova, seeded 31st, is vying for her second major singles title following her victory at the 2021 French Open. Additionally, she has secured seven Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, including two at Wimbledon.
The winner of this Saturday’s match will become the eighth woman in the last eight editions of Wimbledon to claim the championship. Last year’s Wimbledon victor, Marketa Vondrousova, was eliminated in the first round of this year’s tournament.
In the men’s final on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz will face Novak Djokovic for the title.
