Security Breach at AT&T Impacts Majority of Cellular and Landline Customers with Contacts

0

A security breach in 2022 has affected the data of a large number of AT&T’s mobile customers, as well as users of mobile virtual network operators utilizing AT&T’s wireless network, and landline customers linked to these cellular numbers.
The breach has exposed AT&T call and text records spanning from May 1, 2022, to Oct. 31, 2022. Additionally, a small number of customers have had records from Jan. 2, 2023, compromised, detailing the telephone numbers they interacted with during these periods, along with related cell site identification numbers.
In response to the breach, AT&T has initiated an investigation and enlisted the help of cybersecurity professionals to comprehend the extent and nature of the illegal activity.
Fortunately, the compromised data does not include the actual content of calls or texts, neither does it reveal personal data like Social Security numbers, birthdates, or other identifiable information. Usage details such as the timestamp of calls or texts are also absent. While customer names are not listed, AT&T mentioned that it is possible to discern the associated names through publicly available online tools.
AT&T has collaborated with law enforcement regarding the incident and reports that at least one individual has been apprehended in connection to the breach.
