Despite desastrous TV debate Biden stays competative against Trump in latest shock poll

This is a big surprise for all political experts: Despite his disastrous TV debate, the many calls for him to step down, and the incredible negative media campaign since – Joe Biden’s chances for the Presidential election in November remain nearly unchanged.

In a new poll conducted by IPSOS and published by ABC News today, Trump leads by only one percentage point, with 47% to 46%.

The head-to-head race is nearly unchanged from April, when Trump was leading by two percentage points with 46% to 44%.

That means: The TV disaster and the extremely negative media coverage of the last two weeks have not hurt Joe Biden at all; he even improved in the ratings against Trump by one point since the TV debacle – the race would now be a toss-up.

The Biden campaign called the new ABC Poll a sign that Biden should stay in the race and that he could win the presidential election against Trump in November despite the discussion about his age.

But the many calls for him to step down and the negative reporting on his age took a heavy toll on Biden’s image:

  • 85% of all Americans say he is too old to be President for four more years.
  • 67% of all voters (and even 62% of the Democratic voters) say he should ‘step down’.

In the target group of all voters who have already decided to vote in November, the race is even closer: With the decided voters asked only, Biden and Trump each have 46% of the vote – a toss-up.

The reason why the results are nearly unchanged is the extremely negative ‘favorable rating’ for Donald Trump:

While Biden is rated by 42% of all Americans as ‘favorable’ and by 50% as ‘unfavorable’…

…Donald Trump is only regarded by 34% of US voters as ‘favorable’ while a record number of 59% rate him ‘unfavorable’.
