The first democratic insiders on Capitol Hill and around the White House are now certain: President Biden will announce his step back as a Democratic candidate for the Presidential Election already this weekend, just one day short of the Republican Convention which starts on Monday.
One insider stated, ‘The decision is unavoidable – the mounting pressure is too much to make a successful campaign for the Election in November possible. He has to accept this and will therefore resign.’
Joe Biden and his combative wife, Jill, have tried everything possible to save the candidacy and the presidential campaign for President Biden – but the pressure on Biden mounts from day to day.’
Yesterday, the famous movie star George Clooney, who raised nearly 30 million dollars for Biden’s campaign at a Hollywood gathering with the aging president just a month ago, called for Bidens resignation in an attention-getting opinion piece for the New York Times. More and more big donors are doing the same. Additionally, more and more Democratic Senators and Congressmen are following suit with calls for Biden to step down.
‘There is no chance to turn the tide again’, the insider says. ‘Biden would be demolished at the Republican Convention next week, his poll numbers would plummet in the next weeks – the whole campaign would become a disaster with a big defeat for the Democrats also in Congress and Senate. Biden cannot survive that.’
A lot of friends and leading Democratic politicians are besieging Biden in these hours to call it quits and resign from the race and the Democratic candidacy.
He himself would be the only one to decide his successor because only he can release his delegates to a new candidate and hand over the financial funds for the campaign, which amount to more than 200 million dollars.
Biden’s decision is clear and final: He will name Kamala Harris as his successor and the new Democratic candidate. Harris will take over the delegates and continue the Biden campaign in his spirit, maybe even with Biden himself as a supporter by her side.
It’s not clear if Biden will only step down as a candidate or if he will even leave the White House and hand the presidency over to Kamala Harris, so that she can run her campaign as a reigning president from the White House.
There are many signs pointing to this solution: Kamala Harris joined Joe Biden – very unusual given their existing relationship – in the last days nearly everywhere. She even was a partner in the famous phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the Israeli-Hamas ceasefire, already indicating that she might take over.
Kamala Harris presents herself as the most fiery defender of Joe Biden and his campaign these days – the best job she can do to prepare for stepping into his role.
She would be the first female President of the United States, and the first leader of color. She represents a new generation and looks much younger than her 59 years.

The approval rating of Kamala Harris is her biggest burden – only 24% of Americans give her a favorable rating. But in the polls this week, Kamala Harris is surprisingly strong – head-to-head with Donald Trump at 47% to 40%.
The Insider: ‘With a good campaign, she can win this – and the Democratic Party, including Joe Biden, will be behind her in a new, very united form!’
