A United Airlines Boeing jet experienced the loss of a main landing gear wheel during takeoff from Los Angeles, but managed to land safely in Denver, as reported by the airline. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the 174 passengers and 7 crew members on Flight 1001. United Airlines stated, “The wheel has been recovered in Los Angeles, and we are investigating what caused this event.”
This incident follows a previous occurrence on March 7, when a United Boeing B777-200 jet lost a tire mid-air shortly after departing from San Francisco. The tire landed on a car within an airport employee parking lot, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
