WREXHAM, Wales – Wrexham’s top striker, Paul Mullin, is facing a delayed start to the upcoming season due to a recent “minor spinal surgery.” The 29-year-old player will be absent from Wrexham’s anticipated summer tour to the U.S. and Canada. Owned by Hollywood stars Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham is slated to compete against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and the Vancouver Whitecaps during the tour.
The surgery, conducted in London in mid-June, aimed to address a persistent lower back and hamstring problem that has troubled Mullin for an extended period. Despite scoring over 100 goals in three seasons for Wrexham, helping secure the team’s promotion to English football’s third division in April, Mullin’s injury required medical intervention.
In an official statement, Wrexham acknowledged Mullin’s exceptional contributions as the club’s leading goal scorer and player of the season. The decision for surgery was deemed necessary after it became apparent that conservative treatments were no longer sufficient during the off-season training. The surgical procedure is intended to ensure Mullin’s readiness for the majority of the 2024-25 season.
Wrexham’s league season is set to kick off on Aug. 10 with a match against Wycombe Wanderers. The club, situated two tiers below the Premier League, has garnered international attention following the high-profile ownership takeover by McElhenney and Reynolds.
