Mark Zuckerberg, one of the world’s wealthiest CEOs, is known for his relatively modest lifestyle. Despite his immense wealth as the founder of Meta, he often chooses simplicity over extravagance, setting him apart from many other billionaires.

Zuckerberg’s frugality, however, does not extend to his philanthropic endeavors. In December 2015, he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, pledged to give away 99% of their Facebook shares, valued at over $45 billion at the time.

While he occasionally splurges, Zuckerberg frequently makes headlines for his unpretentious way of living. Here are five things he avoids spending lavishly on:

Expensive Clothes

Rather than donning tailored Italian suits, Zuckerberg is often seen in casual attire. He typically wears T-shirts and jeans, and for years, he was known for his uniform of a gray T-shirt, hoodie, and jeans. This wardrobe choice, also embraced by other successful businesspeople, helps him reduce daily decision-making.

Pricey Cars

Zuckerberg’s vehicle choices are similarly modest. Reports indicate he has owned cars like a Honda Fit and a Volkswagen Golf MK6. This practical approach to car ownership is shared by other billionaires, such as Michael Bloomberg, who drives a Chevrolet Suburban, and Jeff Bezos, who has been seen in a Honda Accord. Many wealthy individuals prioritize practicality and functionality in their vehicle choices.

An Over-the-Top Wedding

When Zuckerberg married Priscilla Chan in 2012, their wedding was a low-key affair. Held in their Palo Alto backyard, the event was disguised as Chan’s medical school graduation party. It featured local catering and cost significantly less than the typical billionaire wedding.

A Huge Salary

Despite his billionaire status, Zuckerberg draws a salary of only $1, a practice he started over a decade ago. His primary earnings come from “other compensation,” most of which is allocated to security.

Luxury Vacations

While many billionaires indulge in lavish vacations, Zuckerberg and his family prefer more subdued trips. For example, their vacation to Kauai included eating local burgers and visiting shops. However, Zuckerberg does own a multimillion-dollar compound on the island, which reportedly includes plans for a “huge underground bunker.”

Zuckerberg’s lifestyle choices reflect a preference for simplicity and practicality, setting him apart from many of his ultra-wealthy peers.
