Number of Homeless down in Long Beach, but up in OC and rest of LA Area

The number of homeless people is down this year in Long Beach, reports Mayor Rex Richardson. It is the first drop in seven years since 2017.

Long Beach officials said there were 3.376 people experiencing homelessness in their latest count, down 2,7 % from last year 2023.

But in the rest of the LA Area the number of homeless people is still rising.

It is up a record 28 % in neighbouring Orange County. There were 7.322 homeless people in OC compared with 5,718 a year ago. In the LA Area homelessness is up 7 %.
