While Barron Trump may be inclined to vote for his father in November, he won’t be participating in this summer’s Republican Convention as a delegate for Donald Trump, according to a statement released by his mother, former first lady Melania Trump, on Friday night. Despite being “honored” by the offer, the 18-year-old declined due to “prior commitments,” although specifics were not provided.
Barron, currently a senior at Oxbridge Academy near West Palm Beach, is set to graduate on May 17. Initially slated to join the Trump family contingent at the mid-July convention in Milwaukee, his absence from the delegation is notable.
In contrast, Barron’s older half-brother, Eric Trump, will chair the state delegation, with Donald Trump Jr. serving as a delegate alongside half-sister Tiffany Trump Boulos and her husband, Michael Boulos. Kimberly Guilfoyle, Donald Jr.’s fiancée, will sit on the platform committee, while Eric’s spouse, Lara, holds the vice chair position for the event’s host, the Republican National Committee.
Former President Trump expressed support for Barron’s inclusion in the delegation, albeit misstating his age during an interview with Telemundo 51. Notably absent from the convention mentions was Ivanka Trump, who, along with her husband Jared Kushner, resides in Miami and remains focused on non-political endeavors, having served as advisers in the Trump administration.
The role Melania Trump will play at the convention remains undisclosed. Although she delivered speeches at both the 2016 and 2020 events, her involvement in political activities has been limited since leaving the White House. While she joined her husband at select events, including campaign rallies and fundraising dinners, she has largely stayed out of the political spotlight.
Instead, Melania has been involved in personal ventures, such as selling a Mother’s Day necklace on her social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for $245. Despite her absence from formal political engagements, she remains connected to conservative circles, hosting events for organizations like the Log Cabin Republicans at the Trumps’ private club.
