Zelensky expresses gratitude to Trump after pivotal meeting in Paris

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked President-elect Donald Trump for his “resolute” stance after a trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace on Saturday.

The leaders discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for a “just and speedy resolution.” Zelensky praised Trump’s determination, stating, “We all want this war to end as soon as possible and in a just way.” He also expressed gratitude to Macron for hosting the critical discussions.

Trump reiterates commitment to ending the conflict

On the campaign trail, Trump pledged to bring the war between Russia and Ukraine to a swift resolution, a stance that Zelensky acknowledged during the meeting. “Peace through strength is possible,” Zelensky posted on X, highlighting the productive nature of their talks.

The meeting coincided with Trump’s visit to Paris to commemorate the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral, which was severely damaged by fire in 2019. The gathering at the iconic Élysée Palace underscored the global attention on the conflict and efforts to find a resolution.
