Willy Adames reaches a $182 million, seven-year agreement with the Giants, according to AP sources.

Willy Adames has secured a significant seven-year, $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, bringing a powerful shortstop into the fold during a crucial phase of his career. This information comes from a source close to the negotiations, who preferred to remain anonymous because the deal is still subject to a physical examination. The news was initially reported by ESPN.

At 29 years old, Adames is following up on what has been his most productive offensive season in Major League Baseball, where he recorded a batting average of .251 alongside a personal best of 32 home runs and 112 runs batted in while playing for the Milwaukee Brewers. He is regarded as a reliable shortstop, known for his strong throwing arm and good fielding range, despite a slight dip in his defensive metrics during the 2024 season.

Throughout his career, Adames has consistently delivered on power, launching 150 home runs across seven seasons. He made his major league debut in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays and demonstrated his ability with 20 home runs in his first full season in 2019. Following a trade to the Brewers in 2021, Adames enjoyed a standout year in 2022, hitting 31 home runs and posting 98 RBIs, contributing to a solid 4.3 Wins Above Replacement (WAR).

Adames’ journey in baseball began when he was signed by the Detroit Tigers in 2012 when he was just 16 years old in the Dominican Republic, highlighting his long-standing career trajectory that has now led him to San Francisco.
