Will Power Secures his First IndyCar Series Victory at Iowa Speedway

Will Power emerged victorious at Iowa Speedway on Sunday, capturing his first-ever win at the track in the second IndyCar Series race of the weekend. Power fended off Alex Palou, finishing just 0.3915 seconds ahead, while Scott McLaughlin, the winner of Saturday’s race, secured third place.

Power, leading for 50 out of 250 laps, has a history of speed at the 0.875-mile oval, boasting seven pole positions but previously only managing five podium finishes out of 18 starts. This victory marked Power’s 43rd career IndyCar win and his first oval win since 2019 at Pocono.

The triumph sealed a perfect weekend for Team Penske, following McLaughlin’s victory on Saturday, marking the ninth Penske win at Iowa Speedway and the team’s third win at the track this season, including Ryan Blaney’s NASCAR Cup Series win in June.

Despite starting 22nd, Power raced his way to second place after the first round of pit stops, eventually seizing the lead following a rapid second pit stop on lap 206, which provided him a crucial advantage over Palou.

Issues about the track’s limited width due to partial repaving in May persisted throughout the weekend, resulting in minimal position changes among the top 10 drivers. Notably, Palou gained the lead during the initial round of pit stops until a yellow flag was triggered by Agustin Canapino’s spin on lap 100, shifting the balance in Power’s favor.

On the final lap, a four-car collision unfolded as Power crossed the finish line, with Sting Ray Robb’s car flipping twice on the backstretch after contact with Alexander Rossi. Kyle Kirkwood and Ed Carpenter were also involved in the incident. Robb was taken to the care center but signaled positively as he was transported to an ambulance.
