Who voted for Trump in Iowa – and why: Immigration, Inflation, Economy were key issues

The first analyses of the Iowa Caucus show why Trump won so big.

In contrast to the Iowa Caucus in 2016 Trump this time not only won the rural vote in the farmers regions of Iowa – he was also Number 1 in the metropolitan and suburban areas.

In the rural and farmes regions Trump got 72 % of the vote, but in the cities like DeMoine where he lost in 2026 he was this time also Number one with more than 40 % of the votes.

For the first time Trump was also Number 1 in the target group of college educated voters – here he had 39 % to Nikki Haley with 32 %.

And Trump even won with the young voters under 30 years, getting 41 % of their vote.

In all target groups – college and high education, young voters, city-voters and even female voters (where he won against Haley 45 % to 25 %)  Trump more than doubled his vote-percentage compared to 2016.

The reason why Iowans voted for Trump was primarily the economy: 62 % think he has the better economic policy compared to Joe Biden or his GOP rivals.

68 % voted for Trump for his plans to stop immigration and close the border.

Astonishing 62 % voted for the indicted Ex-president because they think the accusations against him are not fair and politically motivated. And 61 % would even vote for him at the presidential elections if he is indicted before.
