Wells’ three-run homer propels Yankees to 10-4 victory against Royals

The New York Yankees secured a 10-4 win over the Kansas City Royals as Austin Wells played a significant role with a go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh inning. This victory helped the Yankees extend their lead in the AL East, moving ahead of the Orioles by 1 1/2 games who suffered a 12-3 loss in Boston. Wells, who hit a key RBI double in the eighth inning, expressed his satisfaction with his performance and credited his ability to connect with the ball effectively.

Wells’ impressive performance included hitting a 404-foot drive for his seventh home run in the last 37 games, showcasing his consistency as a cleanup hitter. Manager Aaron Boone praised Wells for his strong at-bats and highlighted his offensive contributions for the team. The rookie catcher has been batting .301 in his recent games and has shown his potential since making his debut last September.

The Royals initially took the lead with Hunter Renfroe’s homer in the sixth inning, but the Yankees responded with a rally against James McArthur, scoring seven runs to secure the win. Gleyber Torres, Aaron Judge, and Alex Verdugo contributed offensively, helping the Yankees reach double-digit runs for the 13th time this season. Salvador Perez stood out for the Royals with a strong offensive performance, hitting a home run and driving in three runs.

Kansas City struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, losing their sixth consecutive road game and falling further behind in the AL Central division. Yankees’ pitcher Carlos Rodón delivered a solid performance, allowing four runs (three earned) in six innings. The Yankees made changes to their lineup due to injuries, with DJ LeMahieu placed on the injured list and Jon Berti returning after missing 90 games.

Looking ahead, the Royals’ Seth Lugo will face the Yankees’ Marcus Stroman in the next game. This win keeps the Yankees in a strong position in the division as they aim to maintain their lead and secure a playoff spot in the competitive AL East.
