Waring, ranked lower, secures his career’s most significant win at the Abu Dhabi Championship.

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Paul Waring secured a remarkable victory at the Abu Dhabi Championship on Sunday, finishing with a score of 6-under 66 for a total of 24 under, marking the most significant win of his career. The 39-year-old English golfer entered the final round just a stroke ahead, but he managed to maintain his lead, ultimately surprising himself with how well he handled the day.

“It was quite an easy day really, wasn’t it? It just means so much,” Waring expressed after his win. “I’m really proud of myself for keeping control today.” He finished two strokes ahead of fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton, who recorded an impressive eight birdies for a round of 64, while Thorbjorn Olesen from Denmark, Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland, and English golfer Matt Wallace each tied for third, three strokes behind Waring with scores of 66, 64, and 63, respectively.

This victory marks only Waring’s second title on the DP World Tour after 332 appearances, coming six years after his first win at the Nordea Masters. His score of 19 under after two rounds at Yas Links in Abu Dhabi also set a record for the lowest 36-hole score to par in the history of the European Tour.

Looking ahead, Waring is set to participate as a dual member of both the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour. “I was quite happy living in Dubai, to be honest with you,” he mentioned, acknowledging the challenges of commuting long distances to the U.S. for tournaments. “But I’m looking forward to that. It’s a new challenge. Absolutely made up.”

In addition to the significant win, Waring’s triumph guaranteed him a spot in next year’s Open Championship, further solidifying his career achievements.
