USC’s Juju Watkins hits the 1,000-point mark, accomplishing it in two fewer games than Caitlin Clark.

LOS ANGELES — Juju Watkins from Southern California achieved a significant milestone by scoring her 1,000th career point during a game against Santa Clara on Friday. This achievement places her among the fastest players in NCAA Division I history to reach this scoring mark, doing so in just 38 games, which is two games quicker than Caitlin Clark.

Watkins, a sophomore guard for the third-ranked Trojans, nailed a jumper with 6:47 left in the third quarter to cross the 1,000-point threshold. According to the records, the fastest to achieve 1,000 career points were Maree Jackson from LSU, Carol Menken from Oregon State, and Sandra Hodge from New Orleans, all accomplishing this in just 37 games. Kathy Miller of Weber State and Elena Delle Donne from Delaware also reached the milestone in 38 games. In contrast, notable players like Kelsey Mitchell from Ohio State made it in 41 games, while Chennedy Carter from Texas A&M did it in 44.

Earlier in her career, Watkins set a record for scoring as a freshman, amassing an impressive 920 points. With her recent accomplishment, she becomes the 31st player in the University of Southern California’s history to reach the 1,000-point mark. Cheryl Miller, USC’s all-time leading scorer with 3,018 points, reached her first 1,000 points over the course of 48 games.
