Ukraine appoints a new chief diplomat amidst escalating conflict with Russia

In Ukraine, the parliament has given approval for a new foreign minister, as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aims to revitalize his administration amid the ongoing war with Russia. The appointment of Andrii Sybiha, a former ambassador to Turkey, as the country’s new chief diplomat was confirmed by two lawmakers. Sybiha, 49, had been serving as the deputy to the previous foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, who had played a prominent role in seeking international support for Ukraine’s war efforts.
Zelenskyy is looking to make significant changes in his administration, with plans to replace nearly a dozen top officials in what is considered the most significant government shake-up since Russia’s invasion in 2022. Among the positions that might see new appointments are the heads of strategic industries, farming, and justice. The confirmation of these changes requires the approval of the parliament, a process that was confirmed by Ukrainian lawmakers Yaroslav Zhelezniak and Oleksii Honcharenko.
