Trump’s ambitious Day One plans for his second term

President-elect Donald Trump has outlined an extensive agenda for his first day back in office, focusing on immigration reform, conservative social policies, and economic deregulation. Drawing from over 122 public statements, his promises reveal a “shock-and-awe” approach aimed at reversing Biden administration policies and solidifying his vision for America.

Immigration overhaul

Immigration remains Trump’s cornerstone issue. He plans to end Biden’s “open border policies,” restart construction of the border wall, and suspend refugee admissions. Trump has also pledged to begin the largest deportation operation in U.S. history and issue an executive order ending birthright citizenship, potentially sparking constitutional challenges.

Cultural priorities and conservative policies

Trump intends to institutionalize conservative social policies through executive actions. This includes banning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, pardoning January 6 rioters, and banning trans women from competing in women’s sports. These moves align with his broader effort to address cultural grievances within his political base.

Economic deregulation and energy focus

Trump has promised to slash regulations, expedite drilling and fracking permits, and roll back Biden-era climate policies, including electric vehicle mandates. He aims to reduce energy prices by 50% within his first year, a goal many experts consider ambitious. Corporate America is preparing for potential shifts in trade policy, including Trump’s preference for MAGA protectionism.

Practical and political hurdles

While many of Trump’s promises involve executive orders, some require Congressional approval, and others may face legal challenges. His pledge to settle the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours has been tempered by recent acknowledgments that achieving peace may take longer than initially suggested.

Trump’s Day One agenda signals a rapid, aggressive start to his administration, setting the tone for what he envisions as a transformative second term. However, the feasibility and outcomes of these plans remain to be seen.
