The Republican candidate has stated his intention to end the war in Ukraine even before his potential inauguration as president on January 20, if he wins the election. In a speech at the Economic Club in New York, Trump claimed that casualty numbers from the conflict are “much higher than reported” and said he would work to halt the violence during the transition period between the election and his move into the Oval Office.

Though he hasn’t provided specifics on how he would end the largest European war since WWII, Trump hinted at “surprising elements” in his strategy that he claims would stop the bloodshed quickly—perhaps even “in one day,” as he has suggested. However, he emphasized on a podcast that he wouldn’t reveal further details to maintain the “surprise effect.”
According to his team, Trump plans to negotiate ceasefire terms with Russian President Vladimir Putin “on equal footing.” Insiders described to US Live the possibility of both leaders reviewing maps together. Trump would likely threaten to cut off U.S. military aid to Ukraine, pressuring them to cede territory as part of a peace agreement.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing for the possibility of Trump returning to power. The two spoke by phone in July, and Trump expressed satisfaction that Ukraine had reached out. If re-elected, Trump said he would work to “bring peace to the world,” with ambitions to begin this mission before assuming office.
