Trump attends Super Bowl – who will be his guests: Melania? Elon? Barron?

President Donald Trump will attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans on Sunday.

Trump’s trip to see the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles was confirmed Tuesday by a White House official who was not authorized to speak publicly about the president’s plans and spoke on condition of anonymity.

It will be his first time attending the game as president.

Trump is also scheduled to sit for an interview with Fox News’ Bret Baier as part of the network’s preshow programming, which is set to be taped from Florida before the game and will air at 3 pm ET. Presidents traditionally grant an interview to the network that’s broadcasting the football game, though both Trump and his predecessor, Joe Biden, were inconsistent about participating in previous years.

Trump, a New Yorker who now calls Florida home, has not indicated which team he’s supporting, but posted congratulations to the Chiefs after their AFC Championship win last month.

“Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs,” Trump said on his social media platform. “What a GREAT Team, Coach, Quarterback, and virtually everything else, including those fantastic FANS, that voted for me (MAGA!) in record numbers. Likewise, congratulations to the Buffalo Bills on a tremendous season. They will do a lot of winning long into the future!!!”.

Security Tightened Following Bourbon Street Attack

Trump’s attendance at the Caesars Superdome comes just over a month after a deadly New Year’s Eve attack on Bourbon Street. Security measures are expected to be significantly heightened for the event, which will see the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Who will be Trumps guests?

There is still big guessing who will be with “the Donald” in the presidential box. Most bets go for Elon Musk, maybe even more tech moguls like Mark Zuckerberg or Jeff Bezos. it is not clear if Trump will be joined by his family – wife Melania is not a big football fan, but son Barron is a bis sports fan. Already named as a guest is the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson.

A Historic First for a Sitting President

While several vice presidents have attended the Super Bowl, no sitting president has ever been present. Trump will break that precedent on Sunday, adding another unique chapter to his presidency.

Former President George H.W. Bush did attend the Super Bowl after leaving office, taking part in the coin toss at the 2002 championship game in New Orleans. Now, more than two decades later, the Super Bowl returns to the city with a current commander-in-chief in attendance for the first time.
