Trump storms Washington with promises of American empire

In Western terms, there’s a new sheriff in town! Donald Trump, 78, stormed America’s political power center as he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

Despite icy winds sweeping through Washington, D.C., the cold did little to dampen the spirits of the 200,000 supporters who gathered to witness his historic return to the Oval Office.

Trump, celebrating an epic political comeback, stirred optimism with patriotic rhetoric. He spoke of ushering in a “golden age” for America, envisioning a U.S. flag on Mars, and tapping into the country’s “liquid gold”—oil and gas—to spark an industrial revolution driven by low energy costs. With global tech titans like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg in tow, the atmosphere suggested the birth of a new American empire.

A Divided Capital Turns Red

Trump’s dramatic political shift is being felt even in Washington, a city known for its liberal electorate. Just months ago, Democratic rival Kamala Harris won 90.3% of the vote here. But now, Trump supporters have painted the town red with MAGA hats and Trump flags, exuding a palpable sense of vindication.

The focus is now squarely on Trump’s ambitious agenda. With 200 executive orders ready for signature, his supporters are eager to see him deliver on promises such as border security and the swift deportation of undocumented immigrants—policies backed by 66% of Americans. His campaign against “woke” culture also resonates deeply, with pledges to restore what he calls “common sense” in U.S. politics.

A Changed Atmosphere

Unlike Trump’s first inauguration eight years ago, which saw violent protests and clashes, the city seemed subdued this time. Demonstrations were scattered, and while some activists hurled insults at MAGA supporters, the opposition appeared deflated. Away from the inauguration’s main events, Washington felt like a ghost town.

Trump’s Bold Start

Trump wasted no time asserting his populist leadership style. On Sunday, he rallied with supporters at the Capital One Arena and returned there Monday after his oath of office to sign his first executive orders in front of 20,000 cheering fans—a spectacle unprecedented in Washington’s history.

A Global Impact

Trump’s influence extends beyond America. Along the parade route, a British family braved the cold in Trump hats, praising his connection with ordinary citizens. However, questions linger: Can Trump reshape America amid deep political polarization and entrenched power structures?

Insiders believe Trump is more experienced and pragmatic this time, surrounded by a stronger team. The prevailing sentiment among his supporters is clear: The sheriff is here to clean house.
