Trump set to appear on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ for first post-election interview

President-elect Donald Trump will give his first network interview since winning the 2024 election on NBC’s Meet the Press. Moderator Kristen Welker will sit down with Trump in an episode scheduled to air on Sunday, Dec. 8.

Welker revisits Trump after previous interviews

This will not be Welker’s first conversation with the president-elect. She interviewed him in September 2023, marking his only network sit-down during the 2024 campaign cycle. Welker also moderated Trump’s October 2020 debate with Joe Biden.

The upcoming interview will be taped on Dec. 6, with highlights to be released across NBC News platforms ahead of the Sunday broadcast.

A high-performing show with a key guest

Meet the Press with Kristen Welker has seen consistent success in the public affairs category, frequently outperforming competitors like ABC’s This Week. The show ranked No. 1 among adults aged 25-54 for the third consecutive week on Dec. 1, solidifying its position as a go-to platform for significant political interviews.

Media discussions on covering Trump

Trump’s appearance on NBC has sparked conversations about how media outlets are handling coverage of the polarizing president-elect. While Welker’s interview demonstrates NBC’s willingness to engage with Trump, other media figures have expressed reservations.

For example, Bill Maher recently indicated that he may step away from his long-running HBO show Real Time to avoid the ongoing coverage of Trump. Similarly, popular podcaster Alex Cooper revealed that the Trump campaign approached her about an interview, but she declined, opting to stay away from political discussions.

As Trump prepares to step back into the spotlight through his first major post-election network appearance, the interview promises to generate significant attention and debate across the media landscape.
