At least one U.S. citizen detained in Belarus has been released as part of a diplomatic deal, according to top hostage negotiator Adam Boehler.
However, officials are keeping the individual’s name private for now.
Boehler confirmed that several others were freed in the agreement, but details remain scarce.
The news comes just a day after Marc Fogel, an American teacher held in Russia since 2021, was released by the Kremlin.
President Donald Trump had teased the development on Tuesday, saying another American would be freed soon. “Somebody else is being released tomorrow that you will know of,” he said, without elaborating.
Fogel, who had been arrested for carrying 17 grams of marijuana to treat chronic back pain, met with Trump at the White House shortly after his return. The Biden administration only recently declared his detention to be wrongful.
With multiple high-profile releases happening in quick succession, the Trump administration appears to be ramping up its global push to bring detained Americans home.
