Trinity Rodman of the US women’s team reveals a troubled bond with her father, Dennis Rodman.

Trinity Rodman, a forward on the U.S. women’s soccer team, has shared insights into her difficult relationship with her father, Dennis Rodman, revealing that he has been largely absent from her life. In an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast hosted by Alex Cooper, Trinity expressed her feelings candidly, stating, “He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else.”

Trinity explained that her upbringing was significantly influenced by her mother, Michelle Moyer, who worked hard to protect her and her brother from the turbulent lifestyle associated with the former NBA player. Michelle and Dennis divorced in 2012, which added to the complexity of their family dynamic.

Despite achieving notable success, including winning a gold medal with the U.S. women’s team at the recent Paris Olympics, the lack of a father-daughter bond has been apparent. Her brother, DJ Rodman, currently plays in the G League, reflecting a family deeply involved in sports yet challenged by personal relationships.

Dennis Rodman responded to Trinity’s comments on Instagram, expressing regret for not meeting her expectations as a father. He wrote about his intentions to stay involved and tried to reiterate his pride for her accomplishments, stating, “I will try even when it’s difficult… I wish my kids would call me and come see me.” His emotional message indicated a desire for reconciliation, despite the distance between them.

Trinity recounted a specific moment during the 2021 postseason when Dennis appeared unexpectedly at one of her games with the Washington Spirit. Having not spoken to him for an extended period, she found the situation overwhelming and was visibly upset afterward, captured crying in his embrace. She recounted her feelings of anger and betrayal, stating on the podcast, “The whistle blew and I was so mad… You (expletive) with my head again.”

“That was when I lost hope of ever getting him back,” she continued, sharing her belief that his sudden appearances felt more about his image than a genuine connection with her. She reflected on how she felt Dennis was seeking publicity rather than father-daughter connection during that emotional game.

Despite the challenges, Trinity achieved significant milestones that season, including leading her team to a championship and earning the title of NWSL Rookie of the Year. However, the rift with her father remained until after the 2023 Women’s World Cup, highlighting the ongoing complexities in their relationship.

Dennis Rodman had a storied basketball career, winning five NBA championships over 14 years and earning induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011, yet his personal life remains fraught with challenges that continue to affect his family.
