In Catonsville, Maryland, a tragic incident took place on Friday when two construction workers lost their lives due to a trench collapse as they worked on a home renovation project. The local fire authorities reported the accident.
The workers became trapped when, late in the morning, a retaining wall inside the trench gave way in the Baltimore suburb. This prompted a swift rescue response, as detailed by Lieutenant Twana Allen from the Baltimore County Fire Department.
To begin the rescue, crews first had to stabilize the trench and remove the debris, which was an extensive process. Tragically, the workers’ bodies were not recovered until the evening. At this time, the identities of the victims have not been released.
The collapse’s cause remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway, according to Lieutenant Allen.
