TikTok Deal Still Pending: Will Trump Close the Sale by Saturday?

TikTok is facing a serious problem. The US government wants ByteDance, its Chinese owner, to sell the app. If they don’t sell it, TikTok could be banned in the US. President Trump is trying to help broker a deal. He says he is close to finding a buyer. The deadline to make a deal is this weekend. If no deal happens, TikTok could be pulled from app stores. This could have a big impact on its 170 million users in the US.

National Security Concerns

The US government says TikTok poses a national security risk. They worry the Chinese government could access user data from the app. China denies these claims. However, Congress passed a law last year forcing ByteDance to sell TikTok. The US says the app is a security threat. But many experts disagree with this view. The debate continues to grow, and it remains unclear whether TikTok will be banned or sold.

Who’s Interested in Buying TikTok?

Several companies and investors are interested in buying TikTok. President Trump mentioned “multiple investors” are close to making a deal. Amazon has made an offer, though they haven’t confirmed it yet. Other big names are also in the running. Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, is a potential buyer. Elon Musk has also been mentioned, but he says he has no plans to buy TikTok.

Billionaire Frank McCourt and investor Kevin O’Leary are also interested. Alexis Ohanian, Reddit’s co-founder, has joined McCourt’s bid. YouTuber MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson, is looking to buy TikTok with a group of investors. Tim Stokely, the founder of OnlyFans, has shown interest as well. Big companies like Microsoft, Blackstone, and Andreessen Horowitz are reportedly considering buying a stake.

The White House is also looking at a deal where ByteDance keeps control of the algorithm. However, a new US-based company would operate the app in the US.

What Happens if There Is No Deal?

If there is no deal by April 5, TikTok could face a ban. The app could be removed from the app stores. This would make it harder for users to download and use the app. Trump signed an order in January delaying the ban. The delay gave ByteDance more time to find a buyer. But the law to ban the app still stands. If TikTok is banned, it would affect millions of people who use the app every day. The government could still enforce the ban after the deadline.

What Other Platforms Could Replace TikTok?

TikTok has millions of users in the US. If TikTok is banned, many users will need to find another platform. Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts are the most likely alternatives. Experts believe advertisers would shift their budgets to these platforms. Twitch, owned by Amazon, could also see more users. It is popular with gamers, and TikTok users like livestreaming. Twitch has been growing its content beyond gaming, which could attract more TikTok users. Other Chinese-owned apps, such as Xiaohongshu, have also been growing in the US and the UK.

What’s Next for TikTok?

The future of TikTok is uncertain. The deadline to sell or face a ban is fast approaching. Many companies and investors want to buy TikTok, but no deal has happened yet. If no buyer steps forward, the app will face a ban. Other platforms are ready to take its place. Whether TikTok stays online or gets replaced, the pressure is on. Time is running out, and the world is waiting to see what happens next.
