Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing an alleged victim accusing Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jay-Z of sexual assault, has fired back at Jay-Z’s recent allegations of blackmail.
The high-profile lawyer claims the Roc Nation founder’s accusations misrepresent the nature of their legal exchange.
In a statement to TMZ, Buzbee defended himself against Jay-Z’s claims, asserting that the demand letter sent on behalf of the victim did not include a financial request. “What [Jay-Z] fails to say in his recent statement is my firm sent his lawyer a demand letter on behalf of an alleged victim, and that victim never demanded a penny from him,” Buzbee explained.
The Texas-based lawyer further accused Jay-Z of attempting to bully and harass both him and the alleged victim through what he described as a “frivolous” lawsuit, filed under a pseudonym.
Jay-Z, who was recently named in the amended filing of the lawsuit originally targeting Combs, has vehemently denied the allegations. In a statement, the rapper accused Buzbee of attempting to extort him, calling the demand letter a calculated ploy. “No sir, it had the opposite effect! It made me want to expose you for the fraud you are in a VERY public fashion,” he wrote.
He also urged the alleged victim to file criminal charges if the claims were genuine, stating, “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one.”
The lawsuit accuses Jay-Z and Diddy of sexually assaulting a then-13-year-old girl during an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000. The plaintiff alleges that Jay-Z assaulted her first before restraining her while Diddy also raped her. The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of an unnamed female celebrity, referred to in the lawsuit as “Celebrity B.”
The victim claims the attack caused long-lasting trauma, leaving her in a “deep depression” that continues to affect her life.
Buzbee dismissed Jay-Z’s assertions of blackmail, emphasizing that the demand letter sought confidential mediation, not a payout. “Jay-Z’s conduct has had the opposite impact,” Buzbee said. “She is emboldened. I’m very proud of her resolve.”
Diddy’s attorneys also responded to Jay-Z’s inclusion in the lawsuit, labeling the wave of accusations as “shameless publicity stunts.” They expressed confidence in the judicial process, asserting that Diddy “never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone.”
As the legal battle unfolds, both Jay-Z and Diddy continue to deny the allegations, framing them as unfounded attempts to extract money. Meanwhile, Buzbee and his client remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice, setting the stage for a highly contentious court battle.
