Storms, Snow, Tornadoes threaten holidays in West and East

Northwest faces heavy rain and snowfall

The Pacific Northwest continues to endure relentless storms, with northern California, Oregon, and Washington expecting 3-5 inches of rain and up to 3 feet of snow in higher elevations through Saturday. Winter storm warnings are in effect, urging travelers in mountainous areas to reconsider plans due to hazardous conditions, including river flooding and mudslides.

Rockies brace for intense winds and snow

Strong winds up to 45 mph and significant snowfall are forecast for the Rockies, impacting Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah. The National Weather Service in Denver warned that travel may become “very difficult to impossible” during the storm.

Severe weather sweeps across south-central US

Thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail, and damaging winds are expected from southeastern Louisiana to southern Mississippi on Friday. Flooding risks persist as the system moves into the Mississippi and Tennessee valleys, bringing up to 8 inches of rain in some areas.

East Coast to experience widespread disruptions

From Sunday into next week, the storm system will bring heavy rain and potential urban flooding to the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. Downpours and poor visibility could create significant travel delays for those heading home after holiday festivities.

Advice for travelers

Meteorologists recommend adjusting travel plans to avoid the storm’s peak impacts. Opting for earlier or later departures could prevent being caught in widespread delays caused by severe weather conditions.
