Curry Shines with 56 Points, Mom Gets Jersey

In a stunning display of shooting skill, Stephen Curry lit up the Orlando arena with a spectacular performance on Thursday night. During Golden State’s 121-115 victory over the Magic, Curry poured in 56 points and dazzled fans with 12 made 3-pointers, including an extraordinary shot launched from beyond midcourt as the first half concluded.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr, accustomed to Curry’s scoring marvels, described his anticipation of the long-range basket. “He’s had so many of those the last couple of years,” Kerr noted. “As soon as he let it go, I said, ‘That’s in.’ It set the tone for the second half.” Curry’s scoring prowess carried into the third quarter where he outscored the entire Magic team, 22-21, in what marked his 1,000th regular-season start.

Reflecting on the achievement, Curry expressed satisfaction with his notable contribution alongside his teammates. “A lot of guys contributed to the win,” he remarked, “but it’s nice to have a flurry like that and have fun with it.” With this performance, Curry moved up in the NBA history books, surpassing Patrick Ewing for 26th place on the career scoring list, with a total of 24,867 points. His 12-for-19 shooting from beyond the arc marks the 26th time in his career Curry has hit 10 or more 3-pointers—a feat unmatched in the league.

Coach Kerr, in admiration, praised Curry’s electrifying play. “It never gets old watching it,” he said. “I think the fans here tonight, even the Magic fans, they know they’re witnessing the greatest shooter ever, and one of the greatest performers ever. It’s not just the shots going in, it’s the fluidity and the beauty of his motion, and the audacity, the shots he’s willing to take.” This included a crucial 50-foot shot just before halftime, breathing life into the Warriors’ momentum as they headed to the locker room.

Curry’s teammate, Draymond Green, commented on his pivotal influence. “In the first half we had nothing going and he just kind of kept us afloat,” Green said. “And he continued that in the third quarter, completely took the game over.” Curry’s impressive night brought him within reach of his career high for 3-pointers, continuing his trend of spectacular performances every February 27. His history includes a staggering 54 points with 11 3-pointers against the Knicks in 2013, and 46 points with 12 3-pointers against the Thunder in 2016.

Curry shared his insights on his performance, highlighting the variety in scoring. “When you have nights like these, you get them in all different types of ways,” he explained, “because you’re in the rhythm and the flow and the ball is finding you at the right time.” He emphasized the importance of preparation, stating, “But you’ve got to have the footwork, the balance, the confidence to shoot it no matter what, no matter how they come, and be ready for your moment.” After the game, Curry gave his mother his jersey, an easy toss into the stands.

The evening underscored Curry’s unmatched capability from deep. He elaborated on his approach, “I try pretty much every shot at some point, just to let your creativity kind of flow. It’s a way to have fun and kind of test your range, to see the ball go in from all the places on the court.” With repeated exhibitions of his shooting artistry, Curry remains a beacon of basketball brilliance.
