Steph Curry Announces Retirement from Dunking

PHILADELPHIA — In an exciting albeit rare moment, Golden State Warriors’ star Steph Curry thrilled fans with a dunk against the Philadelphia 76ers. As Curry made his way to the basket for what seemed like an easy layup, he surprised everyone with a powerful one-handed slam — a move he hasn’t executed in six years.

The last time Curry dunked was back on February 21, 2019, at the Warriors’ former venue, Oracle Arena. This led to an interesting revelation following his performance on Saturday night, where he tallied 29 points and dished out 13 assists in a loss against Philadelphia. Curry humorously noted that he has never dunked at the Warriors’ new home, the Chase Center, and confidently stated he never plans to.

With his 37th birthday approaching, Curry acknowledged post-game that his dunking days might behind him. His swift breakaway dunk chipped away at the 76ers’ lead, bringing the score to 109-104 midway through the fourth quarter. Reflecting on the moment, Curry shared, “I’ve been feeling pretty good. I’ve had some knee issues throughout the year. It was great to seize this cherry-pick opportunity, but that’s likely my final dunk. I’m saying it now, you won’t see another one.”

Interestingly, Warriors assistant coach Jerry Stackhouse had ribbed Curry about his infrequent dunks during a practice session earlier that day. After making the slam, Curry couldn’t resist pointing at Stackhouse from the court, adding an element of playful irony to the moment. “It was a really random remark this morning, and for it to happen was just hilarious,” Curry recounted with a grin.

Fans excitedly shared the moment on social media, knowing it’s a rarity. “Definitely,” Curry stated, humorously adding, “In the future, I’ll stick to layups. That dunk took every bit of energy I had.”
