Spouse of Jane’s Addiction lead singer cites tension and hostility as cause of confrontation during performance

A dispute between members of the iconic rock band Jane’s Addiction arose amidst tension and discord during their reunion tour, according to comments made by lead singer Perry Farrell’s wife on Saturday. The group gained recognition for their edgy, punk-influenced tracks like “Been Caught Stealing” and “Mountain Song” during the late 1980s and early 1990s, at the height of the alternative rock and grunge music scenes.

During Friday night’s performance in Boston, videos shared on social media captured Farrell, aged 65, passionately singing into his microphone before abruptly moving towards guitarist Dave Navarro, making physical contact and attempting to strike Navarro with his arm. Navarro is seen warding off Farrell before others intervened and removed Farrell from the stage, prompting the concert to conclude shortly thereafter.

In an Instagram post the following morning, Etty Lau Farrell disclosed that Perry had been growing increasingly frustrated, feeling that the stage volume was overwhelmingly loud, drowning out his vocals each night. She noted that Perry was battling tinnitus and a sore throat, leading him to scream rather than sing towards the end of the performance just to make his voice heard. Etty mentioned that her husband eventually succumbed to tears following the incident.

The band’s tour, named “Imminent Redemption,” commenced in early August and still has 15 upcoming shows on the schedule, including a performance in Connecticut on Sunday. At present, Jane’s Addiction has not issued any statement regarding the continuation of the tour.
