‘SNL50’ anniversary event to feature former cast members alongside Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, and additional stars

NEW YORK — The upcoming special celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live” promises an exciting lineup of guest stars and beloved alumni. Among the high-profile appearances confirmed are Steve Martin, Sabrina Carpenter, Bad Bunny, John Mulaney, and Dave Chappelle, alongside many others who have had significant ties to the iconic show over the years.

Scarlett Johansson, who is married to “Weekend Update” co-host Colin Jost, is also set to join the festivities on “SNL50: The Anniversary Special,” which will be broadcast live on Sunday. This much-anticipated three-hour show will commemorate five decades of “SNL” with a showcase of its most memorable moments and contributors.

NBC unveiled the roster of special guests last Thursday, which includes notable figures such as Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Paul McCartney, Tom Hanks, Miley Cyrus, Robert De Niro, Martin Short, and Kim Kardashian.

In a further exciting development, NBC updated the guest list on Monday, revealing that a number of former cast members will also take part in the milestone event. Notable returnees include Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, Seth Meyers, Andy Samberg, and Adam Sandler. Furthermore, several original cast members from the inaugural season, known as the Not Ready for Prime Time Players, will grace the stage, such as Chevy Chase, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin, and Laraine Newman. The network has hinted at additional surprises, creating a buzz of anticipation around the special.

The anniversary event will take place just two days after another celebratory occasion, “SNL50: The Homecoming Concert,” which will be live-streamed on Peacock. This concert will feature performances by Bad Bunny and Miley Cyrus, among others, and will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon, a former “SNL” cast member. Additional musical acts slated to perform include Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Chris Martin, David Byrne, and Eddie Vedder.

This significant milestone not only marks the legacy of “Saturday Night Live” but also highlights its ongoing influence in the world of television and comedy. Fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to relive classic sketches, hear from iconic figures, and celebrate this landmark achievement in entertainment history.
