School bus leaves 7-year-old behind: Driver unaware

On March 3, a 7-year-old student fell asleep on a school bus and stayed behind. Fox 8 reported the story, causing a lot of concern. The child didn’t get off the bus when the other students did. He missed his stop after falling asleep. His father, Michale Windle, felt shocked when the Coventry Local School District called him. They told him they had left his son behind.

The bus driver was unaware of the situation

The bus driver didn’t notice that the child was still on the bus. After all the other students exited, the driver drove away. The boy was left alone for about an hour. He was alone in the cold weather, with temperatures at 25 degrees. This left Michale Windle feeling angry and upset. As a father, he felt worried and frustrated about what happened to his son.

How the child was found and taken to school

They eventually found the child and took him to school. After the discovery, school officials made sure the boy was safe. Michale Windle expressed his frustration. He said he was extremely mad about the incident. He felt it should have never happened. His son stayed out in the cold with no one checking on him.

School District responds with investigation

The Coventry Local School District has said they are relieved the child is safe. They also started an investigation to understand how the situation unfolded. They explained that the bus driver was unaware that the child had fallen asleep and missed his stop. The bus driver is currently on administrative leave while the investigation continues. The district made it clear that this was a serious matter, and they are working hard to figure out how it happened.

Reviewing safety protocols for bus drivers

The district also addressed the issue of safety measures. They confirmed that they have procedures in place for bus drivers to check the bus after each route. These post-route checks ensure no students get left behind. After the incident, the district said they would review these procedures with all transportation staff. They want to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again and will work towards making the school environment safer.

Michale Windle said the district seemed genuinely sorry about what happened. He mentioned that they have been in direct communication with the family. The school district promised to offer support and provide whatever the family might need. They said they would work closely with them to make sure they handled the situation properly.
