Scheffler wins Olympic gold in an exciting match with a score of 62

Scottie Scheffler emerged victorious in the Olympic men’s golf event at Le Golf National, overcoming a four-shot deficit with a remarkable 9-under 62 final round. With this win, Scheffler, who has already secured six PGA Tour victories this year, including a second Masters title, now adds the Olympic gold medal to his impressive list of achievements in what has been a standout year.
The intense competition saw world No. 1 player Jon Rahm initially leading the field by four shots over Tommy Fleetwood. However, Rahm’s unexpected collapse allowed Fleetwood and other contenders, such as Victor Perez of France, to challenge for the podium positions. In a gripping finale, Scheffler surged ahead with four consecutive birdies late in the final round, climaxing with a crucial 18-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to claim the lead for the first time that day.
By finishing the tournament at 19-under 265, Scheffler set a new Olympic record for 72 holes. Fleetwood, who lost his lead with a late bogey, secured the silver medal with a final round of 66, while Hideki Matsuyama clinched the bronze after a strong finish with six consecutive pars for a 65.
Notably, Scheffler’s victory marks the second consecutive gold medal win for an American in men’s golf at the Olympics, following Xander Schauffele’s triumph in the previous Tokyo Games. The competition featured several top contenders like Schauffele and Rory McIlroy, who were in the mix until they encountered setbacks during the final round.
Overall, Scheffler’s stunning performance and thrilling victory at the Olympics solidify his status as one of the top golfers in the world during what has already been a standout year for the talented player.
