From Landmark Luxury To Legal Drama
Rudy Giuliani has finally closed the chapter on his New York City life, selling his Upper East Side penthouse for $4.95 million. The 81-year-old former mayor and ex-lawyer to Donald Trump let go of the three-bedroom home at 45 E. 66th Street, a sale confirmed by his attorney Gary Rosen. The buyerโs identity remains under wraps.
Once listed at $6.5 million in 2023, the more-than-10,000-square-foot apartment in the historic Fred Leighton Building endured repeated price cuts and market withdrawals before returning at $5.2 million in March. Giuliani originally purchased it in 2002 for $4.8 million, the same year he finalized his divorce from Donna Hanover.
Legal Trouble Shadows The Sale
While the home boasted a wood-paneled library, a formal dining room, sweeping city views, and Yankees memorabilia, these features were overshadowed by Giulianiโs mounting legal problems. Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss won a $146 million defamation case against him over false ballot tampering claims.
A judge ordered the property seized, along with other valuables, but a confidential settlement earlier this year let Giuliani keep it. Still, he ultimately chose to sell.
Closing Deals On And Off The Market
Before finalizing the sale, Giuliani paid his third ex-wife, Judith, $2.5 million in July to take full control of the property. โHe got the apartment, and she got some Hamptons property,โ Rosen told Crains.
With the deal closed, Giuliani is leaving behind his Madison Avenue address and Central Park views for Floridaโs palm trees, officially making the Sunshine State his new home.
