A Quiet Walk Turns Violent
Rosamund Pike has revealed a terrifying moment from her past: she was punched in the face and mugged while walking down a London street nearly 20 years ago.
Appearing on the U.K.’s Magic Radio to promote her new film Hallow Road, the 46-year-old Gone Girl star recounted the nightmarish 2006 encounter.
“I was on the phone to my mother — on a mobile phone walking along a road — and I was mugged,” Pike said, remembering the moment vividly. “The phone was snatched so all she heard was me scream and a thud, and the phone went dead.”
A Mother’s Worst Fear
Pike said her mother endured 15 agonizing minutes without knowing what had happened. “Then I just walked to the pub and called her there when I met my friends,” she explained. “For her, it was probably a pretty horrible 15 minutes.”
The actress described the mugger as a “kid on a bicycle” who physically assaulted her. “[They] punched me down the side of my cheek and snatched my phone,” she said.
Despite the shock, Pike admitted her first emotion wasn’t fear. “I was angry,” she recalled.
Back in the Spotlight with Hallow Road
Pike shared the story while promoting Hallow Road, a chilling new thriller where she stars alongside Matthew Rhys. The film centers on parents receiving a terrifying call from their college-aged daughter — a story that mirrors parental fear, much like what Pike’s mother experienced.
Director Babak Anvari called it a “worst nightmare” scenario for any parent.
Rhys praised Pike’s intense focus during filming, saying her approach left him no room to ease in. “It’s so immediate and so deep. I went, ‘Oh, it’s time to step up,’” he told Collider.
Past Injuries Resurface
This isn’t the first time Pike has spoken about physical trauma. Just last year, she wore a dramatic black veil to the Golden Globes — not for fashion, but to cover a battered face.
“I had a skiing accident over Christmas,” she told Variety. “My face was entirely smashed up. I needed to protect it.”
Her honesty about injury and recovery, both recent and from the past, reveals a pattern of resilience that has earned her fans’ admiration, both on and off the screen.
